Monotype Italian Old Style™ Bold Italic
Originally called Veronese, the Monotype Italian Old Style font family was based on a page from an Italian poetry book (Lorenzo de Medici) which was supplied by the Ballantyne Press in Edinburgh, Scotland and dated 1908. Monotype Italian Old Style is derived from the roman cut by Nicolas Jenson circa 1470, but contains features which show the influence of nineteenth century design. Italian Old Style was modified slightly from Veronese in that the serifs were bracketed and made slightly thinner at the tips. Mainly used as a text face for books, catalogues etc. Italian Old Style can also be used in display setting where the strong character forms can be appreciated.
